Artist's Comments

I saw a story about this barn in my local newspaper, and then a few weeks later my wife and I were in Marion, Ohio and we just happened to drive by the barn.

I don't remember if the man who lives here has a son in Iraq, I just remember reading that he was angry over the loss of so many American lives. He wanted to let his feelings out, so he began painting a star on his barn for every American soldier that lost his/her life in Iraq. Eventually, he covered his barn so he moved onto signs.

The barn says "WMD? One Star For Each Kid Killed"

I altered the contrast and color saturation here to try and bring out the red.

That's a lot of stars. Thankfully, my husband wasn't one of them. He came back safe. But, this picture does make you stop and think.

I do too - I honestly don't think I captured it the way I wanted too, but the idea behind was too important not to try.

Very emotive shot.
